M&S Centerless Grinding was excited to participate in the Dream It Do It program’s student video contest titled, “What’s so Cool About Manufacturing”  which was held for the first time in our area this year. The program is dedicated to changing perceptions and attitudes about advanced manufacturing careers in the Keystone State. The concept is  to take a team of middle school students and pair them up with a manufacturer to have them produce a 2 ½ minute video about what makes manufacturing interesting.  Once the videos are completed they are loaded up to the Dream it Do It PA Website (dreamitdoit.org) and the region votes on the video they like best.

Back in October 2016 students from the Keith Valley Middle School visited M&S Centerless Grinding to begin their video project.  After several visits to get to know our company, the students, together with their teacher coaches, put together a really great, informative video.  Family, Friends and anyone else who was interested  was given the opportunity to vote on the videos over three days in March.  After collecting over 70,000 votes for the area,  the winners were announced at an awards ceremony in April at the Science Center at Montgomery County Community College.  Here Students , their Families, Teachers, and Manufacturers came together to celebrate the culmination of the Video  Project.  Congratulations to Keith Valley for winning the Outstanding Marketing Award.  Everyone here at M&S enjoyed interacting with the students and being able to show our business through their eyes.

This program started in 2013 in Lehigh Valley with 1 contest and 19 middle schools.  To date 150 different PA manufacturers have been featured in the videos, 123 PA middle school teams participated, and Almost 3400 attended award events (along with students this included parents, and educators).  This year alone there have been over 500,000 online votes.  This successful program has helped bolster the look of today’s manufacturing and introduced it to the next wave of potential employees.
